CPGworks – A Successful Tour in Buffalo NY

I have worked “big” corporate, volunteer, large retail, and I have traveled to many countries around the world, some of them numerous times in my career. I have had the opportunity to work with people from across the globe. When I landed in Buffalo nearly two years ago, I was looking for a company that was progressive, that didn’t micro-manage, one where you could talk to the boss, one where the company channels were not so boxed in with corporate bureaucracy and “policy” that there was no room for personal initiative and innovation. I wanted a place where I could flex my muscles and while working the company model, also have the opportunity to expand into new frontiers. CPGworks offered all of that. It hasn’t been a perfect ride. But it has been a challenging one, an educational one and one where I have learned More >

….talk about some mug shots!!!

Here are just a few of the people who have found work through Construction Personnel Group (CPGworks)

When Service Really Matters

If I tell you that CPGworks goes the distance, it’s not a pitch. Just this Friday one of our clients was in a bind. At 5pm, before the long weekend, the Project Manager informed me that he needed some guys who could work the next day (Saturday) and Labor Day (Monday). I was on site at the time so I called back to our in-house recruiter (Kim) and within minutes she made some phone calls and got back to me with two guys who could show up the next day ready to work, and they did. In all, it took less than 20 minutes to locate the guys, confirm them and get the information to the foreman. You won’t find that level of service everywhere on a Friday afternoon after 5pm, before the long weekend.

Tell me your "Objective" in your cover email, not in your resume.

More than likely your objective statement tells your prospective employer that you are looking for a job. And more than likely it implies that the job you want is in the same category as his company.

Consider stating your objective in your initial email. Make it clear and honest. Ditch the cliche textbook crap! Many employers or hiring managers have read thousands of cover letters and here’s the hint – most cover letters read exactly the same! The guy who applied before you read the same how-to book in high school.

When your strategy is to blanket the planet with your resume, custom cover letters may feel like a burden. The solution: send less but put more into them.

Here are some Do’s for cover emails to guarantee that you get noticed:

  1. Let your email double as your cover letter. We used cover letters before email was invented – now they are redundant.
  2. Use your cover email show that you know a little bit about the company. It is okay to reveal that you goggled the company and spent a little time deciding that this was actually where you wanted to work.
  3. Address your correspondence to the person you are applying to. “Dear Hiring Manager” just proves that you put zero effort into it.
  4. Show a glimpse of your personality. People are very hyper-anti-discrimination. The job search process are become very sterile. What nobody will admit to is wanting to know a little about the real person behind the prose. Show just a little bit of personality in your cover letter and I guarantee your resume will get extra consideration.

There is certainly a lot of competition for the position you are trying to obtain. Do the things I’ve listed above and I promise your results will be better.

Myeisha Wesson – A Success Story

This short story is about Myeisha Wesson who was placed through CPGworks. It says it all and exemplifies the type of people that your company could employ and put to work…

From the moment I met Myeisha, I knew she was one tough cookie. Tiny as she is, I knew she was strong, both physically and mentally. She had made some bad decisions in the past and learned from them well. All she wants to do now is take care of her little baby and she is. I started her at Acquest as a laborer doing job site clean up. Once she got in there, immediately she was well liked. Her work ethic and willingness to do whatever was necessary became clear and instantly she became an asset that Acquest didn’t want to lose. When things got slow and other skilled workers were getting laid off, they were finding work for Myeisha just so they didn’t lose her. After demonstrating her abilities and willingness to do the tough jobs, Acquest recommended her to one of their tenant companies, and they are bringing her on perm. They are going to teach her how to be a welder and a pipe bender with a 50% pay increase and are paying for her to get a college degree from MCC. Keep kickin butt Myeisha…..
