NY state – employment! Better than you may think!

New York may have lost 2,900 jobs during the past year, but it’s still doing better than half of all states, according to a new federal report.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the number of nonfarm jobs in New York declined from 8,831,500 in October 2007 to 8,828,600 in the same month this year. That decline of 2,900 jobs puts New York in 25th place in the latest rankings of year-to-year job growth.

Tearing it up!

We’ve got some great photos in now on one of the job sites that a few of our employees have been working at in Butler, PA. The client company, American DND, has been doing this job and as the photos will tell, they’re doing a hell of a job taking up this old pipe line and clearing it away. Those machines you see are excavators with shears and grapples. They pick up those pipe lengths like toothpicks. Anyhow, check out the photos here!
Also check out this cool video showing the demolition of a diesel tank!

John Jordan – CPGworks EMPLOYEE OF THE WEEK

John Jordan has been selected as the CPGworks EMPLOYEE OF THE WEEK. The selection criteria, while not rigorous or rigid, does include certain factors such as reliability, consistency of productivity, responsibility and a clear demonstration of a high work-ethic. John met all of those criteria with flying colors.

John originally responded to an ad that we placed for a job-site that was starting up in Butler PA, as requested by the company. He was sent for the interview and hired on the next morning. These photos give some insight into the work that John was involved with at this site. The lead foreman for American DND (Demolition and Nuclear Decommissioning Inc) had these words to say about John’s performance on the job site as a torch burner, where they were removing substantial amounts of underground piping and cutting them into scrapable lengths:

John Jordan has been a burner and laborer for the demolition of over 75,000'of pipe, some building demolition and a handful of tanks taken out of service. John has shown an always busy work ethic. When the work is done for a task he always is picking up and housekeeping the site. This project allowed John some seat-time in a Terex 140 excavator equipped with a shear for processing steel. After some onsite training he is on his way to becoming an all-around worker. I will be first in line to keep him on the payroll on the next job I get to. Thanks Todd Giolando - American DND

For the record, 75,000 feet of pipe is equivalent to over 14 miles of piping that they removed in a period of about 6 weeks.

Tom Barton – CPGworks EMPLOYEE OF THE WEEK!

This short blurb from the Springville recruiter depicts the type of success that we love to hear about when we place people. Here it is, as written:

“Before Tom came to see me, we spoke on the phone for some time. Then we set it up for him to see me…. ” Patient ” is the word that comes to mind when I think of him…. although by looking at him,he represents the typical construction worker, hard edge guy look… But really, he stuck it out… and is he glad he did…. he came to me about work, wanting to get his life back on track and seeking for an opportunity to start over…. with a chip on his shoulder, negative attitude.. Thinking no one would help him out…. within a half hour, I made him laugh, smile and promised him that I was not going to give up till we found him his start. There was just something about him, his mature way, not really sure, but something, that made me like him and trust him. I just asked him to be patient.

Within a short time frame, I had one of our local clients ready to take him on… starting him out as carpenter helper. This client said, I just need time, and I will take him. Ok- I called Tom, told him my findings and what the deal was… this guy waited for a month… so in the meantime, I decided, this guy needs work now, well, I wasn’t going to wait around… we were always in touch…so when my co- worker landed a Commercial Roofing company, I though of Tom… I know, he doesn’t really have experience,… but you know, his work ethics were good and his reference were good and he was willing… Come to find out… the company was not really looking for experience, but someone with quality. Off we sent Tom for an interview…. He got the assignment and off he went. 2 weeks later, he received a raise, short time later. Commercial roofing was new for him, but he took to it like a duck takes to water. We even have some shots of the afters and befores for a large job that was done was being groomed as a foreman as well as being asked to go to Florida with them. He jumped at the chance. He has completed over 679 hours with that company. As they say, the rest is history…. He is now officially on their payroll, along with packing his bags to head out…. He is a happy guy.. talk about stepping out of the box into a new direction…He credits his success to being responsible, dedicated, following directions and being eager to make a career for himself… Congrats Tom- Job well done!

Tired of sending out resumes and not hearing back?!

Are you on the resume treadmill – where you send out an endless stream of resumes and hardly anyone, if anyone at all, ever responds? It’s an unfortunate circumstance and sign of the times that while the internet has opened up a TREMENDOUS amount of possibilities and access to the world-wide job-scene, it has also opened the door to sub-standard, unprofessional, and frankly, rude “protocol” on the part of employers, employment agencies and job-posting-boards. A bad habit has become more and more prevalent. One where people are directed to send in resumes for jobs and then NEVER hear back from the posting board, employer or the recruitment agency. Before I came to CPGworks, I decided to switch careers and I tried that system. I submitted countless resumes for months through job finding mega-sites, through recruiting agencies and directly to companies who had posted ads for jobs that fit my skills. I heard from less than 1% of those people, and 99% of that 1% were automated responses. It was literally impossible to get hold of a live person by email or phone. Possibly another 2% that I did hear from were scams, marketing strategies designed to get me to buy into MLMs or pyramid schemes or “work-from-home-and-make-millions” schemes. These ads were made to “sound” like authentic jobs, but once you spent 15 minutes filling them out, you soon realized that you were caught in their vortex and it was a cover for another acitivity altogether. Oddly enough I went to one of these MLM meetings, and my “mentor” tried to sell me on paying in $500 as initiation fee and then I’d be making tons of money. It sounded too wierd, and the irony of it is that 4 months later, he contacted the very agency that I now work at, for a job. The MLM bubble had burst. Anyhow, it impacted me, and in fact, made me very irate to see that corporate America was treating people this way, so I decided to do something about it and applied to become a recruiter and was ACTUALLY contacted by a live person from CPGworks, and shortly thereafter, hired aboard. I’ve made it part of my mission to raise the bar on this industry, to make it possible for people to apply for a job and to be treated with decency and respect in return for responding to an employeers ad. At CPGworks, while we don’t claim to be perfect, and we don’t claim to bend steel in our bare hands or promise you the dream-job (although I have found such jobs for people in recent months), we usually try to respond to every resume that we get simply on the premise that we care enough to do it. We know what it feels like to be without work, or without a means to support yourself or your family. If you need work in the construction field, in the office support staff sector of the industry or in the property management zone, contact us. We’ll try to do our best to get you placed, but one thing for sure, we will also do our best to TALK TO YOU, so that you feel like someone “out-there” actually cares enough to let you know you’ve been heard.

CPGworks – expanding into new territory of service

CPGworks recently expanded into whole new territory of service to nationwide client companies or client companies located in other states beyond the borders of New York state. We recently started servicing a national level demolitions company, providing them with qualified trades people in Kansas City Missouri and Pittsburg PA.

We are in fact now able to provide qualified trades people in any state in the US.

CPGworks also recently opened up a new category of service to property management companies with two new property management companies now on-board. We provide superintendents, property or facility managers, maintenance personnel and custodian or janitorial people.

Our goal is to be the best staffing agency in the nation. Not necessarily the biggest, but certainly the one with the best service record.

Kacey Kelly – CPGworks EMPLOYEE OF THE WEEK

Kacey Kelly came in to our Springville office looking for residential carpentry work. She was young, strong, eager, with a dependable truck and tools, and a willingness to get going. Along with a great smile and a fun personalty, Kacey won us over- and so did her references. She has always helped her family with remodeling and loves it. While working on a farm, she decided she really wanted to prefect her craft. We sent her right over to Apollo Drywall. Ever since then, Russ and the guys at Apollo are crazy about her. Her personality and skills kick butt! She not only keeps up with the veterans, but she has been known to outshine them at times as well. She started in Sept and is having a wonderful time, along with learning even more. Every week she emails into us with funny stories and is HAPPY TO BE WORKING THERE!
Great Job Kacey!
