CPG Employee of the Week – Chris Baker

Unfortunately our film crew didn’t make contact with Chris Baker to get his photograph, but Chris is the employee of the week. Chris came to us and was given a one week assignment with our client company, Affordable Drainage Co. He did so well that the company owner has had him aboard now since June 08 and considers him a key part of the company. That’s the stuff we like to hear!

Construction Industry News

The following article is taken from an e-newsletter from the Bonadio Group. For more info on this posting, contact Laura Del Monte at: ldelmonte@bonadio.com (www.bonadio.com)

The Construction Industry as a whole in upstate New York continues to hold steady, outpacing the economy.

The Bonadio Group released its 2008 Contractors State of the Industry Study for upstate New York. The study revealed that despite the challenging state of the economy, most construction companies are making a profit and are optimistic about the future. Many will be turning their attention to profit improvement and optimization of cash flow, which will be especially critical should the overall economy continue to slip.

Other key findings included:

  • Recruiting and retention of management remains to be a thorny issue for many companies.
  • Opportunities to further improve profitability appear strong.
  • Room for improvement in security and controls
  • Bonding continues to be the lifeblood of a successful contractor

Employment News!

The New York Employee Confidence Index rebounded in August, rising 9.7 points, according to the latest poll conducted by Harris Interactive of Rochester on behalf of Spherion Corp.

In the past month — and before Wall Street floundered — more workers expressed confidence in their ability to find a new job, as well as in the number of jobs available. In addition, workers said they were more positive about the future of their current employer.

The monthly survey noted:

• 17 percent of workers believe that there are more jobs available, an increase of 11 percentage points from July;

• more than half of those surveyed (52 percent) reported confidence in their ability to find a new job, a 5-percentage-point increase from the previous month;

• 68 percent of workers are confident in the future of their current employer, an increase of 13 percentage points from July.

The Story Behind CPGworks…

Every company, in fact, every person for that matter, has their story.
The story behind Construction Personnel Group (CPGworks) traces back to the 1980s.

The owner and founder, John Krytus, started out over 20 years ago as a construction hand, driving his motorcycle with a tool belt in the saddlebag. He apprenticed under an experienced construction company owner and tradesman.

After becoming proficient in the trade, John decided to open his own construction company. The company expanded, but with that expansion came the realization that there was no easy way to find good tradesmen and workers in the industry. One of his workers suggested that they start up a placement agency for the construction industry. So they did.

That was 9 years ago. It started with one recruiter, one computer.

Today CPGworks is staffed with veteran recruiters and headhunters and serves clientele from Buffalo, Rochester, the southtowns and is now providing for company needs as far as Kansas City MO and Pittsburgh PA.

When you come to CPG for placement in a construction company, whether temporary or permanent, you’ll get an interview that isn’t stiff and challenging. We work to place you in the kind of trade or labor that you want.

For construction companies, we really work to make the right fit.

Showing Off!

These are some recent shots from a large commercial job that was done by Vantage Roofing Systems. Several of our employees who now work for Vantage were involved in this project, and as you can see from the before and after shots, the quality of the work is excellent. In fact, when you see it for real, it’s very impressive stuff. The system used is a spray-on technique, very clean, very efficient! To anyone who has done large commercial roofing projects, you will appreciate this technique.
